How People Learn Excerpt The National Academies Press
http://books.nap.edu/html/howpeople1/ch3.html
Here you have a whole chapter from John Bransford and Ann Brown's book How People Learn, and the chapter is dedicated to learning and transfer. There are clear explanations and examples of transfer and interesting pop-up sidebars. An appropriate read for all teachers and perhaps a good assigned reading for faculty meetings or small-faculty discussion groups.
Using Apple for Transfer Tasks / Apple Learning Interchange
http://ali.apple.com/ali_sites/ali/ilife.shtml
The Apple Learning Interchange highlights several schools and classrooms that have used various technology to transfer their class knowledge to another medium. The site chronicles electronic arts portfolios, student movies about the fifty states, and slideshows that combine art and poetry. There are suggested lessons (the current one is to compose a school song) and a search engine for looking through the archives.
American Odyssey Poetry Unit / Studyguide.org
http://www.studyguide.org/american_odyssey.htm
This high school English teacher's class Web site offers a very complete unit on studying American poetry using transfer in the most dynamic way: by taking a virtual trip across the country. Mrs. Adams gives a detailed breakdown of the project, the rubric she uses to evaluate her students, and how the project's components connect to the state standards. An inspirational site and unit for teachers of all genres who will surely get ideas for their own subjects and courses. Editors' pick

This site offers a wealth of assessment tools and explanations. Each assessment technique is explained in a clear, organized format by a university-level educator who uses that technique. Techniques range from portfolios to interviews to concept mapping to rubrics. If you are looking for ways to inspire transfer through varied assessment, this site is a gold mine. A great resource for administrators who want to spark faculty discussions about transfer and assessment.
