Teresa Dempsey has a Bachelor of Education from the University of Dayton, a Master of Education in Curriculum with an emphasis in Science Education from Loyola College and a Doctorate of Philosophy in Educational Leadership from Miami University. Presently, Teresa is a High School Coordinator for Curriculum and Professional Development with Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools in central Ohio. Previously, she worked as an elementary teacher and as a science specialist for Prince George's County Public Schools, MD. In addition, she has worked as a research and teaching associate at several universities. Teresa has consulted with K-12 educators from districts of all sizes and SES. Her background and love for constructivist learning fuels her passion in relating the power of Understanding by Design to others. Teresa is often complimented on her upbeat energy level and ease of presenting challenging material in an engaging manner. She prides herself on "walking-the-talk" of UbD and consistently frames her work around its key principles. For the past few years she has worked diligently in creating a consortium concept for Ohio school districts to "work smarter" as they develop understanding-based curriculum. Teresa has presented at the ASCD Understanding by Design conference and the National Staff Development Council conference where her dissertation, Leadership for the Constructivist Classroom, was nominated for "Dissertation of the Year."
